LA Tech LA-SiGMA Hosts Workshop for Community College Faculty, October 26, 2012
Community College teachers from North Louisiana and South Arkansas were exposed to engaging chemistry demonstrations and lab procedures during LA-SiGMA's "Modern Practices in Chemical Education" workshop at Louisiana Tech on October 26. Faculty from Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe, Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, and South Arkansas Community College from El Dorado participated in the event. Dr. Bill Deese and Dr. Ramu Ramachandran, Louisiana Tech Chemistry Professors, provided demonstrations of basic chemistry concepts. Frank Boone of Louisiana Delta Community College commented, "The demonstrations were enjoyable and will really help put chemistry and physics concepts into perspective for students who do not have science backgrounds." Danny Eddy, Instructor of Chemistry, shared best practices for safe waste disposal. The participants also had opportunities for a lab tour and professional networking during the event.
